Seville

Breakfast, tidied up, suitcases emptier than when we came? Weird, world order upended. Still, we definitely have everything.

It was nice 😊

The lady who cleans up after guests arrived promptly at 11 o’clock and after an extremely cursory glance around ushered us gently down to the car park. She opened the door and we emerged into a cloudy but warm morning for the last time in Conil.

One last image which is pretty strange.

Hmmm

The journey north to Seville was pretty effortless in the Peugeot 208. It’s astonishing after driving an i3 with an effective, guaranteed (in warm weather that is, 120 if it’s cold) range of 150 miles to have a little car capable of 500 miles and with a recharge time of only 5 minutes compared to at least an hour in the i3. That said, on purely moral grounds we’ll be sticking to electric cars from now on. But there are definitely downsides.

We managed to check in and drop our luggage off in the hotel ‘Petit Palace Vargas’ before taking the car up to the airport, filling it up with petrol and dropping it off. It’s great having our own transport but it’s always a relief to return it unscathed. Having Apple CarPlay is a huge bonus with Google’s mapping system ideal for navigating our way around foreign obstacles.

The airport bus took us back to the hotel and after a short interlude settling in we took a brief wander around the immediate neighbourhood. The chap on reception had made a couple of recommendations, one of which we took up and were glad to have done so. Unfortunately we ate roughly three times our normal portions (it’s hard to see food thrown away). Not sure whether it’s because we’re older or whether most people simply eat too much but such large portions are catastrophic for our digestive systems 😟

I spent the evening trying to coax my HomePod which both of us rely on to send us to sleep to the dulcet tones of an irritating Melvyn Bragg to join the hotel’s network. Success after an hour or so. No such luck trying to get Netflix running on the supposedly intelligent TV so forced to reading ‘Getting the message’, an excellent, though very dated book on the history of communications. Perhaps I should have brought the Switch 😟

Asleep before 10:30 pm. Looking forward to wandering around Seville tomorrow and in particular, trying to find the lovely bar/restaurant with high ceilings that we enjoyed last time we were here.

Buenas noches
