Sarria

The view last night from the hostel

It’s been a relatively short, 27km day, not terribly interesting, almost no butterflies and not many flowers in the hedgerows. We did meet a couple of interesting people, in particular a young Italian lad whom we’d met at dinner last night. He was a data scientist who usually worked from home where home varied between Rio de Janeiro, the Dominican Republic and Ferrara.

Caught accidentally on camera

He’d started walking in Ponferrada a few days ago but was clearly struggling. It turned out that his pack weighed in excess of 18kg. We explained that he could and probably should dump most of the bag’s contents into a cardboard box and send it via the Spanish postal system to Santiago where he’d be able to pick it up later. I did the same with my boots when walking the Primitivo in 2018. I hope he’ll take our advice; if not I can’t see him making it to Santiago.

Back to today’s little jaunt.

Definitely jaunty 😊
The sun was rising slowly and casting shadows
Much more impressive without snow
An interesting juxtaposition
A carpet of trees
Windswept Rowans
Breakfast stop
(Shrug)
A Spanish love affair
Path renovation – good for at least another 100 years of pilgrims
Pontification
Shorter or longer? (Ans: shorter)
It’s such a lovely stream
Water hemp (aka holy rope)
The harem
Mine, all mine (Sigh)
How much further?
Calla lilies
The planet in a nutshell
Friends always

Buen camino
