Hornillos del Camino

We woke late, after 8, nipped out to drop our stuff into the nearest lavadoria and grabbed a coffee while we waited for our washing to, er, wash. We then sat and waited patiently while it dried. All good so we pottered back to the cathedral to take stock of any carnage left by yesterday’s shenanigans. Nothing, nada, all cleared away so we got our credencial stamped in the cathedral and made our way back to the hotel. We intended to spend a second night in the hotel whilst waiting for ‘our’ Camino wave to arrive but the weather was good, ie cool and we were eager to walk. So we grabbed our stuff, handed in the key and headed off.

I love these statues
They’re cool
Which one is Dorothy?
A stork – yay! 😊

The route took us out of Burgos surprisingly quickly and apart from a quick stop to pick up some bread, hummus, tomatoes and kiwi fruits and to take a couple more pictures, we made good progress.

One of the good guys

“when the journey comes to an end the evening star will rise and the harmonies of twilight will open before the king’s porch”
Not far to go 😉
Poppies and convolvulus – glorious plants
Not a banksy but still impressive
Always time for a little religious instruction
Poppies are simply wonderful – such utterly brave, determined little flowers
Big skies
Nearly done for the day

We’re in safely, it’s been a lovely walk, big skies, decent non concrete paths, a couple of stops for coffee, chats to a Dutch GP who is walking from Burgos to Leon and a French guy who’s just walked from Salamanca to Santiago and who is now, immediately walking from Burgos to Santiago before immediately heading off to walk the Primitivo from Oviedo. He’s 75, looks 45 and carries a bag weighing no more than 3kg. He also walks in sandals ! Respect!

We’ve eaten, we have a nice room in La Casa del Albuelo (granddad’s house) and we’ll aim to get across the meseta in double quick time before the weather hits 30+ degrees again next week. At our current pace we should be in Santiago comfortably within three weeks all being well.

Buen camino
