We’re back 😊.

We left Gatwick late again but fortunately this time we were in time to catch the 8:30 bus to Oviedo. We stayed in the same hotel as last time, a mere 100m from the main bus station. Unlike our previous stay we had time to sample the local cuisine, in this case crocettes and squid. The Spanish eat late and given the usual warm weather, they enjoy a very active social life on the streets.
The bus for Grandas de Selime left Oviedo at 9 a.m. so after a pleasant breakfast we walked the short distance to the bus station. Mum had bought our bus tickets on-line for €15 euros each. Grandas de Selime is some 120km from Oviedo, the bus system here is extensive and excellent value.
The journey took 4 hours including a 15 minute stop in Tineo for coffee and croissant and passed through many of the towns and small villages we walked through last time. The pilgrim path follows the general direction of the road for much of the time and one finds oneself crossing and re crossing the road many times, consequently we saw perhaps 100 or so pilgrims on our way over here. The weather is beautiful, hopefully set to remain so and walking conditions are ideal.
We’re just finishing up lunch here: bocadillo jambon and café con leche before we take a short stroll to Castro where we’re going to stay tonight. It’s only some 5km from here so won’t take us long. We have plenty of time to walk further but once past Castro there’s no accommodation until Fonsagarda, tomorrow’s target, a further 20km.
More updates later.
Buen Camino
